We will resume winter office hours on 1/6/2025: 8am - 4PM, Monday - Friday, with regular business hours to resume at the start of Spring classes.

LOCATION: Coralville Lake, Iowa City, IA
PAY RANGE: $15.25-$19.10/hour; pay will be based on factors such as your qualification, education, experience, and training.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Must be able to begin a minimum of part-time work in April. Applicants who are currently students must be able to begin full-time work immediately following the end of the spring semester and work through the summer until fall semester begins.

Position(s) are available as temporary or term, not to exceed (NTE) 6 years. Seasonal Park Rangers earn 4 hours of sick leave and 4 hours of annual leave per pay period. When scheduled, Seasonal Park Rangers earn night differential, Sunday premium and holiday premium pay. Health benefits are available for certain appointments.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Successful applicants will be required to work all weekends and all federal holidays during the full-time period as well as evening night patrol shifts when scheduled. Overtime may also be required when the situation arises.
TRAINING:
Successful applicants will be required to attend approximately 60 hours of classroom and in-field training.

The Department of Geosciences at Auburn University (https://www.auburn.edu/cosam/departments/geosciences/index.htm) is accepting applications for our graduate programs (MS in Geology, MS in Geography, and PhD in Earth system Science) for Fall 2025 intake. We expect to recruit a cohort of a dozen students, all with fully funded teaching assistantships. Our assistantships include a $26,500 12-month salary and tuition waiver. We are especially committed to increasing the representation of students that have been historically underrepresented in U.S. higher education.

Our core research areas in the Department of Geosciences include Earth and Life Through Time (Sedimentology, Paleobiology, Geomicrobiology), Environmental Geosciences (Climate, Hydrogeology, Environmental Geochemistry, Water Resources, Natural Hazards), Geospatial Sciences and Geoinformatics (Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, UAVs, Data Science), Natural Resources Exploration (Energy, Critical Minerals), and Solid-Earth Processes and Dynamics (Petrology, Geochemistry, Tectonics/Geophysics).
Our interdisciplinary Earth System Science Ph.D. program allows students to examine new ways of thinking about Earth, Environment, and Society through the intersection of Earth’s dynamic processes and human interactions. The program has engaged faculty from five colleges and more than 10 departments to train the next generation of earth and environmental scientists and is led by the Department of Geosciences.

PROFESSIONAL / POST-GRAD
Role Description
This is a temporary on-site role for a GIS/Remote Sensing Technician at the National Park Service Great Lakes Inventory and Monitoring Network in Ashland, WI (https://www.nps.gov/im/glkn/index.htm). The Technician will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geographic information to create maps and databases. Daily tasks include processing and managing spatial data, interpreting satellite and air photo imagery to validate land cover and land use changes to support research projects.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in GIS software, Remote Sensing tools, and Spatial Analysis methods
- Experience in collecting and interpreting geographic data
- Knowledge of cartography, database management, and data visualization
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Environmental Science, or related field
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, and other geospatial software

ANNA BEAL CONSERVATION INTERNSHIP - IOWA NATURE CONSERVANCY - IOWA

Get your start in conservation as an Anna Beal Conservation Intern! Interns will receive a $6,900 educational scholarship, paid by the Anna Beal Trust of Waterloo, to an Iowa school after completing 11 weeks of stewardship work throughout the state on Conservancy preserves and public agency properties.
This internship is an opportunity for Iowa students from any educational background to learn about Iowa’s natural landscapes through outdoor, field-based land management. Interns will develop basic land stewardship skills through hands-on experience in a wide range of ecosystems, providing a good base of essential skills and knowledge to work in conservation. Along the way, interns will have the opportunity to broaden their experiences through interactions with Conservancy staff, conservation partners, and by attending natural resources events.
Don’t miss your chance to get a foot in the door! This work will be a valuable step toward future career paths in land stewardship, fire management, research, biology, and ecology, to name a few. Previous interns have gone on to work in various positions within The Nature Conservancy, as well as with local, state, and federal agencies, academia, other nonprofit organizations, and natural resource contracting.

EDGE OF SPACE ACADEMY - UNIVERSITY OF IOWA - JULY 16 - AUGUST 2, 2025

The University of Iowa offers undergraduates a paid summer research experience centered around space-based instrumentation for observing Earth and space. This immersive program will run for two weeks over the summer in Iowa City, Iowa. Students will be building small instrument payloads that will be integrated onto drone and high-altitude aerial platforms to take measurements of the Earth below and the atmosphere and space environment above. No prior experience in hardware, instrumentation or electronics is necessary. This hands-on experience is designed for all students who have an interest in Earth, atmospheric, solar and space science. Students from historically marginalized populations in STEM are highly encouraged to apply.
No prior experience needed in hardware, instrumentation, electronics, programming, 3-D building, or data analysis.
$500/week living expenses
$100/week food expenses

Research Experience
Students will work in teams to build instrument payloads and integrate them on an aerial platform. The groups will collect data and use that data to make findings about the environment they are observing. On the final days, student groups will present to an audience of students, researchers and faculty to practice their public presentation skills.
Teams will rely on Arduino microprocessors as the control units for their flight instruments. Basic labs and practice will be offered to familiarize the students with the Arduinos and the programming environment. Students will have the opportunity to take on roles seen in full-scale NASA missions, such as Program Manager, Science Lead, and Systems Engineer. Discussion-based sessions will take place in the days leading up to flight to educate students on the Earth and space environment and provide a glimpse into the NASA mission process. Experience the full lifecycle of a true NASA mission in just over 2 weeks!
Sessions will take place that focus on critical skill-building in areas such as resilience, team science, bystander invention, imposter syndrome, mentor networks, scientific identity, and more. This holistic approach will strive to provide students with a range of tools and strategies that will serve them as they go forward in their academic and professional careers.
GEORGIA TECH EAS REU PROGRAM - SUMMER 2025
The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) at Georgia Tech is now accepting applications for our Summer 2025 REU program. Please share this information along with the attached flyer with your students.
The program is 10 weeks long, starting on Sunday, May 18th, 2025 and ending on Friday, July 25th, 2025. The application is due Saturday, February 15th, 2025.
This REU program is designed for undergraduate students interested in acquiring research experiences within one or more of the following fields - note that students do not have to have any prior experience within these fields to be eligible for our research program:

NRC RESEARCH ASSOCIATESHIP PROGRAM - NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, ENGINEERING & MEDICINE
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine maintain a database of more than 1,600 research opportunities and administer postdoctoral and senior research awards at participating federal laboratories and affiliated institutions at locations throughout the U.S. and abroad.
We are seeking highly qualified candidates who hold, or anticipate earning, a doctorate in a variety of fields of science or engineering. Degrees from foreign universities should be equivalent in training and research experience to a doctoral degree from a U.S. institution. Citizenship eligibility varies among the sponsoring laboratories.
