Biography

Eric Small is a Physical Scientist and Clean Water Act Inspector for the United States Environmental Protection Agency.  Operating out of Region 5’s Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Division, Eric conducts inspections and oversees enforcement cases within states and tribal nations located in the Midwest.  Prior to this position, Eric worked for the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources as a hazardous waste inspector and as a project manager for the Illinois EPA’s Office of Site Evaluation, where he evaluated contaminated sites under different environmental statutes.  During his time at Iowa, Eric discovered his passion for the natural world by participating in a variety of geological field trips, serving as a board member for the Environmental Science Club, and exploring the nexus between environmental policy and climate science.

Originally from Joliet, Illinois, Eric received a B.A. degree in Geoscience and Environmental Policy and Planning from the University of Iowa and has since obtained an M.S. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois Springfield.  While away from work, you can find Eric with his Nikon camera hiking in national parks and cheering on the Hawkeyes!
