Her focus as a graduate student took a more surficial turn and she studied the geochemistry of loess-derived soil profiles and their weathering signatures. Her focus since graduating has been on utilizing her Geosciences background for a variety of environmental investigations including wetland mitigations, stream restorations, construction compliance, industrial environmental compliance and geoarchaeology. Katie recently completed the requirements to become a registered geologist with the state of Missouri. Katie and her partner have a six-month-old daughter, in addition to two stepdaughters. Together they enjoy spending time outside and tending their garden.
