Liz grew up in Iowa City. She went to Iowa State University and then the University of Iowa. Liz worked with Frank Weirich, on CFIRMS (Comprehensive Flood Impact Response Modeling System). Her focus has been on restoration ecology. She also ran her own business, Transition Ecology, LLC. 

Currently, Liz is an Assistant Professor at Kirkwood Community College. She has experience in fund raising for non-profits and believes in mentoring students to help them achieve their goals.
